The Venue
A creative hub in the heart of AlUla
Located in central AlUla, Villa Hegra spans two houses connected by a landscaped courtyard, covering approximately 2,300 square meters. The project combines Saudi craftsmanship and French engineering, emphasizing reuse and dialogue with the existing urban heritage.
The first building, dedicated to artists in residence, includes seven accommodations, five studios, and a workshop space for young audiences. The second serves as a local cultural center, housing AlUla’s first indoor cinema and first performing arts studio, as well as an exhibition space and several workshops.
Residencies, workshops, gatherings, screenings, and performances shape the year-round programming, fostering exchange between artists, audiences, and local communities.
Looking ahead, Villa Hegra will be housed in a new building designed by Pritzker Prize laureates Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal. Conceived as a gesture of harmony between AlUla’s urban fabric and its natural heritage, the project embodies the philosophy of the architects:
“Never demolish, never cut down trees, never cut down in anything living. Always add, complete, transform. From what is already there. To do more and better with less”
